Shop and we’ll give 1% for the Planet

This month, on every order made at Craftzero, we’ll donate 1% to 1% FOR THE PLANET. Yep, everytime you check out our non-alcoholic beer or alcohol-free wine, you’ll also be giving to an environmental organisation that gets things done, or rather we’ll be giving – on your behalf. Everyone wins!

The clock is ticking

Right now, more than 1 million species are at risk of extinction by climate change. The 20 warmest years on record, have been in the last 22 years. And we’re directly feeling the impact here in Australia, with out-of-control bushfires, and floods in the same regions. The worst impact of climate change could be irreversible by 2030. We are running out of time and nobody is coming to save us. We recently learned that only 3% of total philanthropy goes to the environment. It’s not enough.

1% FOR THE PLANET

Originally an American organization, started by two businessmen 15 years ago, but now global, 1% for the Planet asks businesses and individuals to give 1% of their sales back to the environment – whether they are profitable or not. Their ethos is that because companies profit from the resources they take from the earth they should protect these resources. They believe that we all have a responsibility to protect the environment and to the planet, the best way we can help is to dig deep into our pockets and give the money to the people who are willing to do the work. 

Anyone can make a difference

To date they have 3,000 members and have raised $250 million in support which goes to approved environmental nonprofits. From tree planting, to cleaning up plastic in the oceans, to clean water filtration - these nonprofits do great work on the ground and go where big business can’t. Just one example, close to our hearts, is the work a host of non-profits are doing to protect forested communities, while looking for short-and-long term solutions to bushfires. 

Serious challenges facing our planet

The problems faced by the environment need a lot more money thrown at them to really tackle them. And while $250 million is a lot (a huge amount to us mere mortals) it’s just a drop in the ocean in terms of fixing this looming catastrophe. But we’ll all do what we can, after all everyone has a 1%, and we know we’re so happy to be able to support such a great organization. We’re proud to get behind 1% for the Planet.
